Sooner or later many will have been in this situation. Maybe in this case a better option would have been "hey guys, I only came on this mission to help my guildmate out, didn't really want to do this mission otherwise; sorry"

Honest and to the point; nobody should have to feel forced to play a computer game for the benefit of complete strangers online. Alternatively "hey guys I only came on this mission to help my guildy, but I'll stay to help you guys out" - I'm pretty sure at least one person would have had accepted you were putting yourself out and appreciated this (the group leader by the sounds of it)
